Aspirations/Goals: To be better each day.

I started racing because… I always liked everything with a steering wheel and velocity.

In my spare time, I… go to church, enjoy my family and friends, and play sports.

If I wasn’t a racecar driver, I would be… a soccer player.

Originally from Londrina, Parana, Brazil, João Victor Caputo Horto has had an undeniable desire for speed and racecars since he was born.  After spending his childhood years driving go-karts for fun, at 13, he entered into the world of professional racing. From that moment on, with a lot of faith, dedication, and hard work, he was hooked—and results soon followed.  In his first season of competitive racing, “J.V.” was crowned the karting champion of Northern Parana, and a fire inside him was ignited.

After two years of regional victories, J.V. made his debut in mainstream National karting. He quickly became a two-time Southern Brazil champion, placed third in the Brazilian Cup, and had a fourth place showing in the Paulista Light Championship. Furthermore, he was selected as one of 14 finalists for the Seletiva Petrobrás de Kart, which brings together the best drivers in karting from Brazil and Argentina.

Soon J.V. began his international racing career in formula cars, where he participated in the Formula BMW Scholarship in Spain. With little experience in cars, he stood out and among his competitors and was called up to the next phase, classifying among the four best drivers in a group of 30. These results guaranteed his participation in the North American Series in 2009.

In his Formula BMW Americas debut, J.V. led various times, garnered a 2nd place finish, and finished the season in fourth place among rookie drivers. Even as a rookie, he demonstrated great natural talent that impressed his team, which ultimately led to an invite to compete in the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear in 2010.  In his rookie season, J.V. achieved an impressive 4 podiums, 5 top-five finishes, 9 top-ten finishes and 7th overall in the Star Mazda Championship.

In 2011, J.V. will once again enter into the Star Mazda Championship in pursuit of his maiden victory.  He will drive for 2010 Champions Juncos Racing as together they will fight to win the title once again.  J.V.’s dedication, determination, and hard work are all tied to his big dream and objective—to become a driver in the IZOD Indycar Series and to raise the Brazilian flag in one of the most important and competitive racing series in the world.
